This course meets directly at an outdoor range and is shooting intensive. Students can expect to fire about 100 rounds of bird shot or game loads, 50 rounds of buckshot, and 50 rounds of slugs. Topics covered include patterning your shotgun, ammunition selection, knowing your shotgun’s range, capabilities and limitations, practical applications of the shotgun in a home environment, using a mounted light appropriately in a home defense situation, loading and shooting on the move, and single and double slug changeovers. Students are expected to bring a reliable shotgun equipped with a weapon-mounted light with a momentary on/off switch that can be actuated by the support hand. Side-saddle shell carriers and stock-mounted shell carriers or sleeves are also recommended and so is electronic hearing protection.
